Yesterday, the death of Associate Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg sent shockwaves throughout the world and many in Washington aren't just mourning they are preparing for war. That's because with the death of Ginsburg comes another open chair on the Supreme Court and another opportunity for Republicans to nominate a conservative on the highest court in the land.
Now, this nomination could be jammed by McConnell right before the election and that is a scary proposition because that means not only will democracy not be valued rather a proper vetting for a nominee which could mean the Senate could nominate who has a very bad record to the highest court in our land.
Let me be clear: I believe a nominee can be nominated by the President and should have a vote if it's 90 days or more from Election. That's because it usually takes 60-70 days for a confirmation for the Supreme Court. And with only around a month until the election, we should not give Trump's nominee a vote.
Furthermore, this was Ginsburg's last wish and if Republicans would love to honor her I believe that it would be just for them to follow her last wishes. This is not about anything more about human decency. And McConnell is anything but decent if he thinks court-packing is more important then democracy. And if they do confirm a justice to Ginsburg's seat then Democrats should spend there Senate Majority to court-packing because that is the only way for a justice system that is 50% conservative and 50% liberal.
